Taylor's Oxford Sight Word Program
My program is a multilevel program that covers the first 115 most frequently used sight words. The words are divided into colors, with the white words being 15 words and the next colors all being 20 words. The children take home pocket sized cards to give them ownership of the program and to encourage parents to participate. Once the children can read the word and create an oral language sentence they can move to the next level. A certificate and small prize is given to the children once they have completed a color.

Sight Word Certificates (please feel free to download, add your students names and laminate)
I have use these sight word cards to celebrate the children's efforts in completing each sight word color. They are only small so I laminate and put a ribbon on them. Once every month we have a ceremony and present the certificates to the children. I usually invite a special guest to present the certificates.
Oxford Sight Word Wall Cards
For beginning readers a sight word wall should be big and visible to the children. I feel it is really ineffectual having a small word wall that young children have to spend a lot of time and move from their seats to find the word they need for their writing. Because the word wall is big, the expectation is that the children spell the words correctly. Ensure the children know that it is ok to ask a friend or teacher to help them find the word they are looking for. We play lot's of word wall games to reinforce sight word learning. I use colored paper to print out each level.
Take Home Cards Oxford Sight Words
I put the Oxford Sight Word Cards on key rings or the children often wear them on USB necklaces. The reason I give each child their own cards as they feel a sense of ownership of the cards and often wear them to school with pride. When the children can read the words and make an oral sentence, they can move to the next level.

Bang is a common sight word game that the children really love. You can play it in a small group or a large group. cut out and laminate the BANG! cards. Put the BANG! cards and take home cards into a bag. The children take turns selecting and reading the sight word cards. If they select a BANG! card, they have to return all their cards to the bag. The player with the most cards at the end is the BANGER!
